A Marketing Calendar Template for Your Fitness Business
As a fitness business owner, you know how important marketing is to be successful. If you’ve owned a fitness business long enough, you also know marketing is one of the first things that gets pushed to the next day when other ‘more important’ tasks crop up.
It’s super easy to fall into the “I’ll do that tomorrow” trap, which inevitably leads to an email blast sitting as a draft in your to-do folder three weeks later.
It’s frustrating, but we’ve all been there (including me, who has the word marketing in my job title). When reflecting on my time creating and implementing marketing strategies for a variety of businesses, I can think of two things which have helped me immensely in kicking this habit.
1). The Eisenhower Matrix
The first is what is called an Eisenhower Matrix, which is derived from General Eisenhower’s famous quote:
“What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.”
As you can see, the matrix has four quadrants:
- Urgent and Important (DO)
- Not Urgent and Important (DECIDE)
- Urgent and Not Important (DELEGATE)
- Not Urgent and Not Important (ELIMINATE).
Using this matrix, you can assess any of your tasks and see which quadrant they fall into. This technique lets you take a step back and prioritize how you spend your time.
2). A Monthly Marketing Calendar
The second thing which has helped me ditch the “I’ll do that tomorrow” mindset for marketing tasks is building and sticking to a monthly marketing calendar.
Utilizing a calendar approach is simple and effective. In stage one, you tackle one of those not urgent but important tasks, which is planning out your marketing strategy. How you build out this strategy is up to you, but make sure to document your plan and assign yourself due dates to keep yourself accountable. Putting your plan on paper (or in a spreadsheet) helps shift your mindset from something you should do to something you must do – therefore shifting it to a task which is both urgent and important.
I’ve found this method so simple and effective that I’ve decided to share the template I use in a format everyone can use.
Download Your Copy of the Marketing Calendar Template Here!
After you download the marketing calendar template all you have to do is go to “File” a “Make a Copy”, and you are free to fill it out as you see fit.
Two things to note. First of all, this template is not going to do your marketing for you, it’s only a tool to help you plan and prioritize your marketing strategy.
The second is this is a template, it’s not gospel. You don’t have to follow it verbatim. You can easily adjust the template to fit your own marketing tactics and strategies.
When you get into the calendar template, you’ll find tabs along the bottom to help you navigate from month to month, with a few other instructional tabs to help you out as well.
If you’re a marketing novice, check out the “How to Use” tab, which can guide you through some best practices for each tactic. We’ve also included additional resources to help you dive deeper into each of the strategies, so you can see how to apply them to your business.
