Every climbing gym owner gets excited about new members.  One important aspect is to ensure they have a positive and safe experience, especially if they are new to climbing.  Creating a web page that outlines what members should expect on their first visit is a great way to welcome newcomers and provide important information. Here are 7 essential items to include on the page to help address any questions your new members may have.

1. Welcome and Introduction

Begin the page with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the climbing gym. Highlight the gym’s mission, values, and the type of climbing experiences your members can expect.

2. Facility Overview

Provide a comprehensive overview of the gym’s facilities. Describe the different climbing walls, bouldering areas, training sections, and any other amenities available. Include details about the gym’s layout and any specific rules or regulations climbers need to follow.

3. Climbing Levels and Grading

Explain the various climbing levels available at the gym, ranging from beginner to advanced. Introduce the grading system used to rate the difficulty of routes and bouldering problems. Offer guidance on how beginners can identify suitable climbs for their skill level.

4. Safety Guidelines and Rules

Safety is paramount in climbing. Clearly outline the safety guidelines, including the proper use of harnesses, helmets, and other equipment. Emphasize the importance of proper belaying techniques and falling techniques. Highlight any specific rules related to gym etiquette and behavior.

5. Introduction to Climbing Gear

Provide an overview of the essential climbing gear needed for a first visit. This should include harnesses, climbing shoes, chalk bags, and any other equipment required. Mention whether the gym provides rental gear for beginners.

6. Introductory Classes and Programs

Promote any introductory classes, workshops, or beginner-friendly programs the gym offers. Explain the benefits of taking these classes and how they can help newcomers improve their climbing skills and safety knowledge.

7. Highlight Your Facility

It’s a good idea to include high-quality images or videos showcasing the gym’s climbing areas and facilities. Visuals can help newcomers get a better sense of what to expect and generate excitement for their first visit. Additionally, include contact information or a link to your gym’s contact page in case newcomers have any questions before their visit.  Link to an FAQ section addressing common inquiries about gear rental, parking, and gym hours can also be beneficial.
