Meet Rosa Seward, franchise owner of Brickhouse Cardio in Stafford, Virginia

ZP: Joining us today is Rosa Seward, franchise owner of the Brickhouse Cardio Club in Stafford, Virginia. Rosa, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.

Rosa: Absolutely, my pleasure.

ZP: Tell us about Brickhouse Cardio Club.

Rosa: Brickhouse Cardio Club is a dance fitness studio that combines dance with aerobics. We offer classes such as Zumba® Fitness, Turbo Kick®, WERQ®, and Flaunt™. All of our classes are fun, fast-paced and burn calories in a big way. It also allows our members to shed stress, have fun and enjoy the company of other dance fitness enthusiasts.

ZP: How did you get started with Brickhouse Cardio Club?

Rosa:  I had a full-time job with a long commute, and after work, I taught Zumba® classes before going home. Over time, I realized that I enjoyed teaching Zumba more than my full-time job. While attending a Zumba conference in Los Angeles, I saw an opportunity to become a franchisee of Brickhouse Cardio Club in Stafford. I decided to quit my job and started my business in the same community where I lived.

ZP: Wow, that sounds like a big leap of faith. Were you nervous?

Rosa: A little bit, but the corporate office at Brickhouse Cardio was really supportive. They helped me set up my business for success with a proven plan. That gave me a lot of confidence.

ZP: We’ve done a lot of work with Brickhouse Cardio studios in the past, did they recommend Zen Planner for your studio?

Rosa: They did. Before I even opened for business they suggested that I get started with Zen Planner first. While I appreciated their suggestion, I still researched other potential dance fitness software providers.

ZP: What did you find out?

Rosa: Well, I spoke to other franchise owners and asked for their opinion. Some of them had used MindBody and had faced challenges, but those challenges didn’t seem to be occurring with those who used Zen Planner.

ZP:  And you ended up choosing Zen Planner?

Rosa: I did. I can’t imagine not having Zen Planner as part of my business. It helps me organize my class schedules, keep attendance records and automates billing. I also have weight loss contests throughout the year that I can track directly in Zen Planner.

ZP: Those are all great features, but overall, how has Zen Planner made a difference in your business?

Rosa: I would probably need to hire someone full-time to manage my student data and billing, and now I don’t have to because Zen Planner has it covered. Zen Planner probably saves me about $40,000 a year in staffing costs and that doesn’t include the time it saves me so I can focus on other parts of the business.

ZP: What would you recommend for anyone starting a business in the fitness industry?

Rosa: Research different fitness software providers and find out what would work best for you and your business. That’s what I did and I ended up with Zen Planner, which was a good move for me.

ZP: That’s good advice. How was the training on the new software once it was installed?

Rosa: It was seamless for us. Zen Planner is intuitive and easy to learn and train others to use.

ZP: Well it sounds like you are off to a great start. We always like hearing about how our clients are doing. Is there anything we can be doing better?

Rosa: That’s one of the things I like best about Zen Planner, you guys always ask me what else you can do to improve things. I don’t have anything right now, but I’ll let you know when I do.
