Yoga Trends to Look Out For in 2019
Sections

Yoga has been growing in popularity in the recent years with different trends and yoga software popping up along the way. In 2018 we saw yoga with animals, SUP yoga (stand up paddle board), outdoor and aerial yoga on the rise. Here are a few new trends and styles to look out for in the new year;
Acro
Push yourself to face your fears and learn how to fail in this increasingly popular style of yoga. It’s the perfect mix of acrobatics and traditional yoga healing. Whether you’re the base, flyer, or spotter, everyone will benefit! You’ll learn to trust more deeply, play more freely, and build total body strength in the most unique postures. Acroyoga focuses on communication (verbal and non) and letting go of ego to challenge yourself. You will gain skills that will prove to be beneficial on and off your mat. To practice you’ll need a partner, but don’t worry, most acro classes don’t require that you bring your own! Meet new people, strengthen existing relationships, and learn more about yourself. Just remember to let go, have fun, and be safe!

Kundalini
Some yogis prefer their practice to serve as a physical workout, others find peace in the mediation aspects of yoga. Kundalini, meaning ‘coiled snake,’ is a balance of both, with emphasis on strengthening the mind-body connection. This form of yoga is focused on helping you reach your full potential, increase consciousness, and live a healthy life full of peace and harmony. Sounds pretty great, right? The combination of physical movement, breathing techniques, chants, and meditation will leave you feeling refreshed and centered. If you’re looking for a way to unplug and invest in self-care that will have lasting benefits on your overall health and life, check out Kundalini.
Ayurveda
In Sanskrit this is translated to Ayur (life) and Veda (knowledge). Although not technically a form of yoga, many are adopting the medicinal system to complement their yoga practice. Ayurveda’s goal is to create and maintain balance in the mind, body, and spirit through movement, diet, meditation, and natural remedies. In our modern society we see many yoga classes and workshops integrating parts of this practice into their instruction. For example, you might end your Vinyasa class with Abhyanga, a self-given massage using heated oil. There are many benefits to Abhyanga, including increased circulation and alertness, calming of the nerves, and lubrication of your joints. Take your yoga practice to the next level by incorporating Ayurveda into your daily life to improve your overall wellbeing.
Online
Regardless of the style of yoga you prefer, you’ll be able to find high quality resources and videos online to help deepen your practice at home or on the go. No matter your skill level or schedule, the endless libraries online allow you to switch up your practice when you need a change of pace. You can subscribe to your favorite portal to follow skilled instructors and view regularly updated videos that help keep your practice dynamic. Just like the changing classes and schedules at your local studio! Or, if you’d prefer to try a new style, you can test it out in the comfort of your home. The online yogi community is growing and making quality instruction available anytime, anywhere with little to no cost. It’s time to take advantage in 2019!
