Fitness Business Marketing ‘How To’: Embedding Social Posts & Facebook Reviews

When I speak with fitness business owners about how they use social media, people are in two camps. The first group believes fervently in social media and can easily tell you their engagement numbers on Facebook, followers on Twitter and how they build engaging content for social distribution. The second group is made up of folks who have heard of Twitter, but see no reason to tweet. These folks also have Facebook pages, but don’t update them regularly and guess that a small percentage of their audience is actually on social sites continually.

The Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project has been studying online adults’ social networking site usage since 2005. According to their research, 72% of online adults use social networking sites. Although younger adults continue to be the most likely social media users, one of the more striking stories about the social networking population has been the growth among older Internet users in recent years. Those ages 65 and older have roughly tripled their presence on social networking sites in the last four years, from 13% in the spring of 2009 to 43% now.

Clearly there is an untapped opportunity to use social media more effectively. One way is to let prospective clients or members see the reviews for your gym, studio or affiliate via Facebook. Thanks to @brianyerkes, there is a way to do this. According to Brian:

“You can’t embed all reviews, but you can embed each one individually. When viewing a review, click on the time / date is was uploaded – for example, it might say “about a month ago” or “2 weeks ago”….after clicking on that, the review post will display. If the reviewer’s privacy settings allow it, there will be a small downward arrow in the top right hand corner. Click that and you will see “Embed Post”. From there you can grab the code to paste into your website.”

To see more info on embedding reviews, go to Facebook’s online support forum.
